Thorp Law Truck Accident Safety Alert

Another truck accident resulted in a fatality in Johnston County late Sunday afternoon, April 19th. The North Carolina Highway Patrol says a Clayton woman was killed when her car collided with a pickup truck on N.C. Highway 42. It was raining at the time of the accident.

The crash happened when the driver of an eastbound pickup truck towing a utility trailer lost control after passing several vehicles and then tried to merge back into the eastbound lane. The pickup truck hit the westbound guardrail and skidded sideways into the path of the car driven by Stefanie McCartney. The trailer then disconnected from the pickup, went airborne and landed on another vehicle.

Ms. McCartney, age 33, was killed.

In 2013, there were 1,260 crash fatalities throughout North Carolina. Twenty-six of those fatalities occurred in Johnston County. Only eight other counties in North Carolina had higher traffic accident fatalities than Johnston County.
